Claremont College
Deaf students choose subjects in the same way as hearing students, but
also have the option of choosing Deaf Centre as another subject which is
counted towards their required contact hours. Students can also be
supported in class by a teacher of the deaf.
Students are provided with interpreting as needed and occasionally
student notetaking is required. Interpreting is also provided for work
placements or extra curricular activities eg. SRC (Student Representative
Council). Communication with the Deaf has been offered as a 50 hour
TCE course.
In 1999, there is only one Deaf student attending the college. She is
enrolled in English 12C, Accounting and the Tourism VET (Vocational
Education Training) course. She is a member of the SRC and the Red
Cross group. She is supported on a part time basis this year by Susie
Armillei (teacher of the deaf).
